The 2026 charges
| Unit type | Total per unit |
|---|---|
| Single or semi-detached | $155,650 |
| Townhouse / row | $124,238 |
| Large apartment (over 750 sq ft) | $103,276 |
| Small apartment (750 sq ft or less) | $60,719 |
The single/semi figure breaks down to about $69,994 for the City, $79,981 for the Region of Peel and $5,676 for school boards. Charges are indexed twice a year (February 1 and August 1).
Peel's temporary 50% cut
In June 2025 Peel Regional Council approved a temporary 50% reduction in regional development charges on new residential units, from July 10, 2025 to November 13, 2026, tied to provincial funding. In May 2026 Peel paused new growth-related water and sewer procurements after the promised funding had not arrived, which could slow servicing for about 24,000 proposed Brampton units. Brampton's own incentive for purpose-built rentals also runs to November 2026.
Why it matters to buyers
- Pre-construction prices: charges are part of the builder's cost. When reductions expire in November 2026, new-home prices face upward pressure.
- Agreements: read the agreement of purchase and sale for clauses that pass development-charge increases on to you. Many cap them; some don't.
- Resale vs new: resale homes carry no new development charges, one reason resale can be better value than a comparable new build.
